GQM ONE FOCUS

The Bible does not use the modern term mental health, but it speaks deeply about the heart, mind, and soul. In a fallen creation affected by sin, people experience fear, anxiety, despair, and even depression, yet God seeks to bring healing, peace, and renewal to us (Proverbs 4:23; Romans 12:2). Elijah battled exhaustion and despair, yet God provided rest and physical care before restoring his purpose (1 Kings 19:4–8). Jonah experienced immense emotional distress tied to spiritual rebellion (Jonah 4:3), yet God was ever present with him and pursued him even in rebellion. The Bible also acknowledges spiritual warfare’s impact on the mind, as seen in Saul’s torment and the man delivered by Jesus who was restored to his “right mind” (1 Samuel 16:14; Mark 5:15).

God cares about our mental health. He wants us to bring our anxieties and burdens before Him and to allow His truth to reshape how we think and respond (Philippians 4:6–7; 1 Peter 5:7). Rather than carrying everything alone or being defined by what we feel in the moment, we are invited to anchor our minds in what is true, good, and life-giving (Philippians 4:8). As we walk with Him, He renews our thoughts, strengthens our hearts and minds, and leads us toward peace that this world cannot produce (Romans 12:2; John 14:27).

"Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things."

Philippians 4:8
