How do you see yourself? Most of us answer that question with things that can change overnight. We define ourselves by our careers, accomplishments, relationships, appearance, reputation, failures, or the opinions of others. When those things are going well, we feel valuable and secure. When they fall apart, we can feel lost, discouraged, or even worthless. The problem is that anything rooted in circumstances is unstable. Life changes. People disappoint us. Success fades. Yet we all long for an identity that is secure and meaningful. The Bible teaches that such an identity exists—not in what we do, what we own, or what others think of us but in who we are in relationship to Jesus Christ. When we understand our identity in Him, we gain a foundation that remains firm regardless of our successes, failures, struggles, or circumstances.
